This course is for people with basic sewing skills who wish to expand their garment construction and sewing skills and gain some basic pattern drafting skills.
We will learn to make a skirt block (a very basic pattern in your size to establish fit), then learn a couple of skirt style variations. Students will then be free to use some design flare to make a skirt of their own creation.

WEEK 1: Introduction to Measuring and Drafting
+ Learning to measure yourself and others.
+ Applying the measurements taken from the body and learning to apply them to a pattern.
+ Drafting a basic skirt pattern.
WEEK 2: Making a Calico
+ Learning about skirt styles and design features.
+ Choosing your design around these style variations.
+ Cutting your skirt from your pattern and constructing the garment in calico.
WEEK 3: Fitting and Altering
+ Fitting your calico and altering the calico.
+ Redrafting pattern with your design changes.
+ Cutting your design with your fabric.
WEEK 4: Garment construction
+ Learning about interfacing.
+ Sewing a zip into a skirt.
+ Learning to sew pockets.
+ Hemming and top sewing garment to finished product.
WEEK 5: Garment Construction Workshop
+ Finishing off garments.
What to bring
+ Basic sewing kit: scissors, dressmaker pins, cotton.
You will be provided with
+ Cardboard and pattern drafting paper.
+ Detailed instructions for pattern cutting, fitting and constructing your garment + pattern drafting rulers.
+ Tutoring in a small class environment (maximum 6 people).
